Week #6 Assignment #2-1

The world is changing rapidly with the growth of technology. In today’s world success is dependent on your knowledge of technology. The only way to make it far in life is through the use of technology. Every job has technology integrated in it. Before students are thrown into the big world it is important they are educated in the areas of technology.

It is a teacher's job to incorporate ICT’s into their lessons. Teachers need to build the skills of their student preparing them to be successful in their future. The definition of proper education has taken on a new meaning in this generation. Students must be fluent in technology to be successful in the other areas; cognitive skills, literacy, etc. Important skills have changed over the years, now technological skills are the imperative skills for students to learn. It is not enough for teachers to use technology to prepare their lessons but they need to also encourage the students to use it and incorporate it into the classroom.

New literacies mean proficiency in technological, cognitive and literacy skills. There are many ways new literacies can and should be used to support learning. Firstly using online resources for research is a great tool. It is good for students to know how to navigate the internet and find important questions and information. Students can also use various technological tools to represent the information they have found. Charts, tables, graphs etc are all helpful graphic organizers for students to create with technological tools. Communicating with other through social networking can also be very productive. They can share and discuss work together. Working with others helps you learn new ideas. Edmodo is a great example of social networking; students submit their work on this platform, teachers can monitor their work, students can respond and learn from each others work. Through social networking students are learning how to apply their technological skills to learning.

In order for teachers to be able to teach successfully they need to go to frequent training. They need to keep up with all the new forms of technology. The more proficient and knowledgeable a teacher is in technology the more beneficial it will be for the class. Teachers need to feel confident about their technological skills to implement them successfully. There is constantly new and improving forms of technology and teachers need to stay up-to-date with it all.
